Biography

Dawn Dong ( Yuxiao Dong )

Artist and art teacher. Member of Artists Association in China. Member of Markham Group of Artist in Canada.
Dawn graduated from the Printmaking Department of China Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1994 and settled in Canada in 2001. From 2004 to 2007, she studied abstract painting at the Art Department of OCAD and Fleming College in Ontario. Every year she participates many art shows and group exhibitions in Canada and USA, including several personal exhibitions as well. Some of her art works have won expert judge awards.

In many of private and corporate collections , her work has become increasingly sought after by patrons and collected by many art collectors in Canada, USA and China. Dawn’s paintings have established a great reputation among people worldwide because she pursues the true expression of artistic emotions in painting creation,which is full of oriental feelings. Her paintings are influenced by the masters of abstract paintings Zhao Wou-Ki and Jackson Pollock. By using the abstract elements and strong ideas of modern Western painting,
in the state of static inaction, the abstract inspiration of thinking is generated in her artworks which flows naturally through the brush.Autonomous depiction of blooming realm and image expression reproduce poetic beauty and flowing joy. Dawn's artworks focus on the wonderful light and shadows of trees, rivers, lakes, and so on. The artist watches the moments of stillness to feel the rhythm of life, and draws colour changes under different times, different lights, and different moods. The subjective and dynamic painting has a profound artistic conception. The colours of the artworks are elegant and refined, and the paintings are full of strong artistic appeal and visual tension.

Her abstract paintings come from her heart expressing emotion as a visual language, using pure colour and
expressive marks to connect and communicate. Her work emits a special light and magic that is both spiritual
and moving, giving the viewers a feeling felt only in the heart.

董欲晓 (Dawn) Yuxiao Dong: 自由艺术家。

1994年毕业于鲁迅美术学院版画系，2001年定居加拿大。2004一
2007年在安省OCAD美术学院和弗雷明学院艺术系进修抽象绘画
的学习。绘画作品多次參加美国和加拿大画家联展并有部分作品获
专家评委奖。她的绘画作品受抽象绘画大师赵无极和波洛克的影响，
在绘画创作上追求艺术情感的真实表达，富有东方情怀。运用西方
现代绘画的抽象元素和强烈的意念，在静态无为的状态中，产生思
维的抽象灵感，经笔端自然流淌出來。自主的描绘花开的境界及意
象表达，再现诗意的美和流动的喜悅。关注树木，河流，湖水等美
妙的光影，看静与动交替的瞬间，感受生命的律动，画不同時间，
不同光线，不同心境下的色彩变化。主观灵动的绘画，意境深远，
引人入胜。用笔潇洒自如，色彩雅致脫俗，令人沉醉，画面富有强
烈的艺术感染力和视觉张力。

Artist Statement

​

I believe beautiful thing is necessary in life, My intention is to make art that stirs the soul and connects us not only to the beauty of the human experience, but also to what lies beyond our sight. My hope is to help you live your best life by creating beauty that brings you joy and serenity in an otherwise crazy world.

My paintings are created through intuitive responses while engaged with the work. The process is completely natural and spontaneous. What emerges on the canvas is an internal language that is highly emotional and universal. It speaks of places unseen, but at the same time comforting and familiar...Using color as language, my paintings are alive with emotion through the movement of the brushwork and the luscious layered colors. each painting is filled with layer upon layer of paint, building a rich history into each piece.

My passion is creating unique art using texture as a base and color and form to express myself. I am constantly evolving and exploring new technique's which allows me to look at my work in a new light and colorful expressions.

来加拿大后主要学习和研究西方绘画的抽象表达方式和方法,曾和加拿大几位很受欢迎的比较知名的艺术家 Stephanie Rayner; Jill Segal; Steve Rose学习，尤其主要研究西方抽象绘画对当代艺术的启迪与影响。离开中国后，反观东方文化，开始了有价值的比较与思考，在绘画中探讨精神上的归属问题，最后定位在用油画和压克力作抽象绘画，抽象艺术的难度，业内人是深深懂得的，抽象来源于对具象的深度理解，走这条路要面对不断的探险与挑战，通过不懈的与同行交流，重新理解绘画，尝试新的画材和画法，融汇东西方绘画技巧，不断训练自己手中的画笔去挖掘新的表达方式，这些年来，可以说非常受益于西方绘画方法的某些启迪，也受益于西方艺术家工作思路的启发，突破了自己在艺术上的表现力，对于一个画家来说，进行了自我完善的攀升。

2009年 担任加拿大著名艺术家Stephanie Rayner的助教，为中

国鲁迅美术学院版画系研究生班进行为期两周的教学指导
